About Oliver Fisher

Oliver Fisher (born 13 September 1988) is an English golfer who plays on the European Tour.

Oliver Fisher

Fisher is regarded as one of the best prospects of recent years. He was a winner of the Faldo Series, Nick Faldo’s development programme for young golfers, in 2003, 2004 and 2005 and in 2005 he became the youngest player to take part in the Walker Cup. In late 2006 he competed at the European Tour Qualifying School as an amateur. He finished fifth to become the youngest Briton to win a tour card and immediately turned professional. He made the cut at his first five European Tour events as a professional and finished high enough on the 2007 Order of Merit to retain his card for 2008.

Quote from ShotTalk.com - “He is from Chigwell and played at West Essex, an absolute awesome talent. Was spotted by Chris Jenkins when Ollie was 9 at a driving range in Dagenham. Chris took him under his wing and has been teaching him ever since. Ollie won everything as a junior in Essex, he once won the county junior and men’s championships in the same year when he was like 13/14. Kept improving getting better and better. Broke the course record round Celtic manor when he was 13. Was the youngest GB player ever in Walker Cup, 16 yrs old!. He was being looked after by Nike and IMG back then it was a no brainer he would sign with them when he turned pro. Won countless big amatuer events. Was off +5 as an amateur. Decided he didn’t want to go down the route of trying to earn enough money for a tour card on the back of invites and wanted to earn it properly. Went to tour school in 2006, finished 5th (if i remember rightly), I think the youngest Brit to earn a card. Anyway, earned enough money to keep his card in 2007 and has made a steady progression. The thing is his swing is pretty perfect, no quirky movements like Garcia, Casey etc have in their swing.”

“He is down to earth, a real athlete, totally focused and not flash (take not Poulter, Rose) and wants it enough to step up to it, and he is only 19!! I believe and have done along with everyone who knows of him that he is better than Rory Mcilroy (Rory got over exposed for playing well in the open) and I think you will see Ollie push on this year and finish high on the European tour OOM. Also quite a few pros I have spoken to round here believe he is possibly the best ball striker they have ever seen in person, the coverage on TV was saying they haven’t seen anyone hit their irons this flush before last week in Andlucia.”

Quote from Thomas Levet
- “If he improves on Tour in two or three years he’ll be like Tiger Woods”

    Hi Ollie,

I was a member at Abridge where you practice. May I say having watched you in recent weeks how much you have improved from tee to green. The biggest improvement I noticed is in your mental approach to the game. Once your flat stick starts the perform as well as the rest of your game skies the limit.

    All the best

Can’t help thinking about what may be going wrong, however I’m sure someone will get you back on track and where you ought to be…top 50 ! Perhaps go back to your roots !! Knew of you as a junior, playing County golf against Herts, remember Tony Mitchell, Tom Haylock etc.?. Best of luck for 2010

  13. Peter Shepherd says:

Played well in last few tournaments just looking like losing his card, treat it as a minor setback as you have the game and attitude to compete at the top.
All the very best for next year,me and the boys will come out to watch you.

  14. Paul Hughes says:

I have been lucky to follow Olly in several matches this year working for Sky TV, Unbelievable talent , everything will come good , he`s a fighter with the right attitude .

Olly , I might of lost my £200 at the open but I know that that will be repaid plenty of times over in the near future . Awesome talent , Golf legend of the future.

    Hughesie

  15. Peter Shepherd says:

I said way back(even when he was playing fairly well),that i spotted a fault in his set up,but because my name is not harmon or cowen,no one seems to listen!.

Two days with me would turn him around.wouldnt even charge him.

  16. Dave says:

Olly split from his coach Chris Jenkins back in February 2009 – since then he seems to of had various coaches, none of which appear to of captured the best skills that Jenkins bought out of him.
Jenkins was his coach from 9 years old, it was him who developed Ollie’s swing, hopefully he’ll find a new coach that can keep him grounded and help him find his form again.

  17. shaun butler says:

Olly was a brilliant amatuer golfer. But the Olliver Fisher I saw at the Open wasnt, the same player?? He was working on some very strange practice drills? It seems the coaches have got to him, and ruined what was a great prospect!!. SHAME……

  18. Ted Jones says:

Seems the lads swing has gone. It is such a great shame to see such a talent (went round with him at Jerez Qualifying School) allowing the mental daemons to get the better of him. Hopefully he is young enough to train and play through the problem, but it will be very difficult to get the confidence back as he has not won anything on tour, YET.

Best of luck and lets hope that you can retain your card for next year. Whether you do or not, start working with a good sports psychologist and focus on the target not the swing.

  19. peter shepherd says:

I see he retired from the Czech Open after half a dozen holes anyone what the problem was?

  20. peter shepherd says:
